King Koil Mattress Set PCFL Q (5)

Purchased from Art Van in metro Detroit 1/10. Pillowtop queen set felt great in the store. We prefer a softer mattress and liked the King Koil because it didn't have that hard wire around the border, making it uncomfortable to sit on the edge. It was the softest, nicest mattress in the store compared to others at twice the price. We paid $1,000.

Around 12/10 we noticed a depression on one side only. It didn't look too bad but was very hard to sleep on because you'd roll toward the middle, forcing you to hold yourself up or else you crowd the other person. You can't sit on the edge without falling back.

We called Art Van on 3/11 and they sent a guy out to evaluate it on 4/11. He laid a string across the mattress that had a weight on the end so as to see the sag. You could see it and he "measured" the depth of the impression, not with a ruler but an index card box looking device. I was later told it was a "special" measuring tool.

He said the sag was 1/2 inch at the deepest point and asked me to sign a paper to that effect and that the mattress was clean. He stated the foundation was good. I asked him what this meant and he said that a sag had to be 1.5 inches deep to be defective.

No one called to follow up as they stated they would. When I called a few days later I was told the matter was closed because it was only 1/2 inch. They are sending out another guy in 2 weeks to re-measure and review.

I can only say that any Art Van or King Koil exec would not think this sag was acceptable, especially after paying $1000. I am very disappointed. Do not ever deal with either one of these companies.

What kind of King Koil?
by: Anonymous

I was looking to buy a King Koil Natural Response Swiss Holiday high resilience firm support, that was in the clearance section of an Art Van store in Metro Detroit. It's supposed retail price including the box spring was $2399. Sale price $1099. On clearance for $799 - Queen size.

I'm not sure if the bed is a memory foam, or latex, or innerspring, it doesn't say anywhere on it. There are no reviews of this mattress anywhere on the internet. When I type it in, it leads to a link for Art Van, but when you click on the link, it says that the link has been removed.

I have read a couple of reviews of this bed, and all say that the mattress starts to get depressions in the middle after not much time. What are other people's experience with this bed?

I noticed some stitching coming undone on the top layer around the edges. As this is a clearance model, it says it comes with a 1 year warranty, but reading all the complaints about the warranties, I'm not putting too much faith in the warranty claims, and that will not be a deciding factor when I purchase.

So, is this a good deal for this type bed? I'm looking for a Firm bed, I believe this is, and it's really comfortable. Odd Lot's has a Serta Perfect Sleeper Davidson Firm Queen for $549, is this a good bed?

Also went to a mattress distributor that has Serta, Ashley, and Englander beds including a Visco Pedic by Englander that he says he can give me for $699. It seems like a quality bed, comparable to Tempurpedic. By the way I slept on a Tempurpedic for the last 2 years. It was an excellent bed, NEVER got hot on it like a lot of people said they did. Unfortunately I can't afford one.

Also can't find any reviews by real people of the Visco Pedic by Englander. He also had a bed by Ashley, I think it was an Eco friendly bed, with latex or memory foam, but it was way too plush, for like $899. He says it was totally green because it was made of soy and other natural ingredients. Anyone have any experience with Englander? All the Englander's that I tried out were really comfortable.
